Tips to have the best photoshoot possible

1.  Research your photographer before ever booking your shoot. Take a look at the photographer’s work and see if the aesthetic choices they make vibe with your own. There are a ton of great photographers with different styles that fit different folks. You don’t want to have photos that you aren’t thrilled with and the best way to do this is to research the right photographer for you.

2. Connect with your photographer.  Talk with them about what your goals are from the session.  If its a headshot session then talk about what you want to gain from the headshots.  Are you an actress who is looking to book their next gig or a lawyer who needs to update their look on their business cards?   Taking the time to communicate what your goals are will help your photographer make sure you get the most out of your session..

3. Show up on time.  Your photographer probably chose a specific time for lighting considerations, foot traffic, or location availability and showing up on time will make all the difference in the world on how your final photos turn out.  Also the photographer might have a booked schedule and if you show up late that could cause conflicts with their next client.  Put your best foot forward in your new working relationship with your photographer and make every effort to get there on time.

4.  Talk about outfits with your photographer.  Whether you’re doing a themed shoot or a more general lifestyle shoot clothing choice is essential.  Your photographer will want to consider the season, consider the location, and consider you and your loved one’s style to come up with the right outfits that will take your session to the next level.  Also your photographer should be ecstatic that you want to discuss clothing with them.

5.  Ask your photographer for an image board.  This is a big step in increasing the likelihood that you are going to be happy with your shoot.  Your photographer should take the time to send you images with people that look like you, in locations like the one you’re shooting with, and clothes that look like the ones you’ll be wearing.  This also helps you both know what kind of looks and mood you will be shooting on the day.  An image board can be a great tool for ensuring you get exactly what you want out of your photo session.

I hope these tips help to ensure you have a fantastic session with your photographer and if that photographer happens to me then I can’t wait to make some great images with you. Thank you, kindly.
